- SWISS CONFEDERATION
Founded in 1291 (and
independent ever since) Switzerland has become the land of chocolate,
cheese and army knives. Many suspect, few know, some ignore that there
is far more to this tiny nation in the heart of Europe and the Alps. Our
democracy has become a model for many a nation around the world and our
social security is envied by no less of them.
Reading the Swiss news,
reading about all the problems Switzerland is facing, sometimes makes me
wonder, sometimes smile and sometimes shake my head in disbelief. In my
years working in developing nations, I have come to know a different
kind of life, one that's filled with issues that make many a Swiss
problem fade away.
Yes, it is a privilege to have been born and
grown up in a place like Switzerland. I am extremely grateful for it and
see it as my responsibility to carry some of what I have received out
into to the world and meet some of the needs of other people. |
